Chicago fashion coaltion met gala viewing party
Assignment: Throw a gala celebrating chicago fashion
As the Chicago Fashion Coalition community grew, we set out to create more opportunities to network and celebrate its members. Our largest event to date was the first annual Met Gala Viewing Party in 2022, which has continued successfully for the past three years.
Born from a desire for Chicago to take part in fashion’s biggest night, we aimed to create a space where the local fashion community could feel just as seen and celebrated as its New York counterpart.
Though working with a modest, nonprofit-based budget, every aspect of the event’s curation was intentional. It had to represent Chicago authentically and inclusively. We chose Tribe, a Black-owned event space in the West Loop, as our venue and secured Bacardi as our event sponsor.
A standout element of the evening was our curated exhibition: we selected seven local designers to each dress a mannequin, showcasing and celebrating their original creations.
The event was a resounding success—it sold out and has continued to be held annually ever since!
